“Being Present” by Yorgos Avgeropoulos was awarded the Best Documentary Orpheus Award at the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival!

The film unravels against the backdrop of the disintegrated public health system, observing over time the political management of the pandemic in Greece, its prominent protagonists as well as its invisible heroes. Through the Greek experience, Yorgos Avgeropoulos manages to capture a universal reality, posing critical questions for the new post-Covid era, an era that we’ve already entered.

“Being Present”, an iMEdD production in collaboration with SmallPlanet, premiered online in February of 2021 in Greece and it was screened for 15 days during March, becoming a great success and receiving very good reviews from the press.

In this year’s 15th edition of the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival 18 documentary films participated. There were also presented 17 animation films, 14 feature films and 16 short films, a representative sample of the Greek film industry during hardship.

This is the second “Orpheus” for Best Documentary that is awarded to Yorgos Avgeropoulos by the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival. The first was granted to him in 2015 for his award-winning film “AGORA – From Democracy to the Market”, a coproduction of SmallPlanet with the German network WDR and Al Jazeera.
