On March 3, 2021

AGORA II – Chained by Yorgos Avgeropoulos, in its German edition “Kampf um Griechenland”, is nominated for the 57th Grimme-Preis in the “Information & Culture” Category.

The “Grimme-Preis” is one of the most prestigious German television awards. It was established in 1964 by the Grimme Institut and takes place in Marl every year since, awarding productions “that use the specific possibilities of the medium of television in an extraordinary manner and at the same time can serve as example regarding content and method”. Acclaimed directors such as Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Lars von Trier have been awarded with a “Grimme-Preis” in the past.

“AGORA II – Chained” is the second documentary by the awarded filmmaker and journalist that concerns the Greek crisis, a 2020 production, that has been awarded with a Special Mention ASBU in the 24th edition of PriMed Festival in Marseille and has also been nominated for Prix Europa of 2020. In the documentary, Avgeropoulos records from the inside the consecutive crises that strike Greece and the EU  for five years: a financial, refugee and public health crisis, therefore creating a cinematographic mosaic of a European dystopia, posing critical questions regarding the future of Greece, as well as Europe’s.
