AGORA - Poster
The audience received AGORΑ with a particularly praising response at its German festival premiere on the night of May 14th at the 30th International Documentary Film Festival DOK.FEST.

The film premiered at the fully packed Rio Filmpalast in the presence of film director Yorgos Avgeropoulos who held a vivid Q&A session after the screening. During the thought-provoking debate that followed, the filmmaker shared with the audience images and realities of the Greek crisis, which the mainstream media in Germany rarely convey and which thus remain unknown to the German audience.

German spectators expressed their solidarity with the Greek people by stating that they cannot accept the strangulation of another European people by the policies implemented by the German government.

During the debate, the issue of European policies in Greece was furthermore addressed by Mr Kostas Giannakakos, Head of the Greek House in Munich, Mr Fotis Markou, economist and entrepreneur, and Mr Bernhard Zangl, Professor of Political Science at Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich. They all stressed that the formula of austerity policies that have been imposed in order to reduce Greece’s deficit has failed, leading Greece to increased poverty and inequality as well as to the rise of fascism within the Greek society.

DOK.FEST Munich hosted two additional screenings of the film on Friday May 15th at Rio Filmpalast and on Sunday May 17th at Munich’s Cultural Centre Gasteig.

On Monday 18 May at 20:00, AGORΑ was screened at the Department of Political Education of the Ulmer Volkshochschule in Ulm, city of the Baden-Württemberg state in Southern Germany.
