«The Blood of the Kouan Kouan» by Yorgos Avgeropoulos will participate in the 3rd Millenium International Documentary Film Festival organized in Brussels, Belgium.
This is one of the most dynamic documentary film festivals concerning social issues and will be held from June 8 to 14. «The Blood of Kuan Kuan» will be screened on June 12 in Vendôme Cinema (Chaussée de Wavre 18) at 11:00 (GMT +02:00)
During the Millenium International Documentary Film Festival there will be conferences with distinguished personalities from all over the world, including French philosopher and writer, Gilles Lipovetsky.
The main theme of the festival this year is the explosion of the media and the new role of the documentary film. How the documentary can defend cultural diversity in a context of globalization when Mass Media sometimes misinform rather than inform?
«The Blood of the Kouan Kouan», portrays the struggle of the native people in Amazonia, Equador, the region with the richest biodiversity in the world, against the destruction of their natural environment and the contempt towards their lives by the multinational and local oil companies. Texaco was accused of dumping 18.5 billion gallons of toxic oil waste into the Ecuadorian Amazonia. Petroecuador, the state oil company, was accused of causing hundreds of leaks of tons of crude oil into the jungle.
Today, the residents of the area are partially vindicated by the courts, since Chevron (ex- Texaco) has to pay 9 billion dollars for the irreparable damage caused to the environment and local people.
