When_the_World_Sinks_-_Poster_EN

DURATION: 52 min.

Scientists consider Bangladesh to be the point zero of climate change. As the ice melts, the sea level is rising and this South Asian coastal country is sinking. It is estimated that, by the year 2050, approximately 20 million people will have abandoned their homes in Bangladesh, becoming climate refugees. This is a new and almost unknown term which describes, however, the emergence of the true face of climate change. According to predictions, by the year 2050 more than 250 million people from all over the world will have become climate refugees and will be crossing their countries’ borders. Now scientists warn of consequences not even comparable to the nuclear threat, with the world becoming a constant warzone where no one will live in peace…

"Control oil and you control nations. Control food and you control the people!"

Henry Kissinger 1974

A handful of multinational companies have managed to control the "heart" of the food we put on our table everyday: The very seed and, therefore, global agricultural production. Brokers in the developed world gamble with food, raising and lowering prices, playing with the fundamental right of millions of people to access food. Meanwhile, almost a billion people on this planet are undernourished and 25,000 die of hunger each day. Could it be that the Earth can no longer feed its population?

The evidence proves otherwise! The food crisis, as it will go down in history, occurs at a time when the planet is producing more food than ever. Filmed in India and the USA, "Dying in abundance" unfolds the absurd before our eyes, the interconnections of a system in which, while there is enough food, it is so expensive the poor cannot afford it.

Computer parts contain toxic and carcinogenic materials. When our favourite pc stops working, it turns into a dangerous electronic waste which must be recycled following rigid specifications. However, instead of managing their own electronic waste, developed countries find it cheaper to export it to poorer nations. In doing so, they force billions of people to choose between poisoning and poverty, while the planet’s seas, rivers, soil and air are being irreparably contaminated. Up to 50,000,000 tons of our “digital civilization” end up illegally in China. In cemetery cities, computers are cut into pieces, rinsed in acid baths and incinerated by legions of impoverished workers and underage children, who tear these parts to pieces with their bare hands for a dollar a day.

Shivas_Flesh_-_Poster_EN

DURATION: 48 min.

The act or practice of feeding on dead bodies (necrophagia) is beyond comprehension in the western world. But in other cultures ritual cannibalism is a fact. This astonishing documentary filmed in India provides a very rare recording of this practice as well as its philosofical backround.

Varanasi is the holy city of Hinduism. More than 1 million believers arrive in this city every year, after a long trip, to die in the banks of the holy Ganga river. There, the Aghori Sadhus members of a sacred and ancient sect are searching for their way to heaven: Human remaining from the cremation grounds. They believe that by eating human flesh from the dead bodies floating in the Ganga they humiliate themselves therefore are reaching closer to God.

Aghoris seem to follow a path, which is strikingly opposite to that of ideal Hinduism. They take liquor, eat flesh and utter obscenities, meditate at night and have uninhibited sex. Aghoris are one of the most controversial of Hindu holy men (sadhus). People believe that Aghoris possess magical powers and stories of Aghoris curing people suffering from serious diseases are common in the Indian villages.

Taliban_-_Poster_EN

DURATION: 58 min.

The "revival of the Taliban" is a fact. And Pakistan is the new centre of developments in Central Asia, for it is from its grounds that the new waves of fighters with the black turbans, and their continuous attacks, unexpectedly shift the geopolitical map of Central Asia, as well as the international balances.

The hideout and base of operations of the "new Taliban" is located in the rough and inaccessible mountains of the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Not only western people, but even the authorities of Pakistan themselves are incapable of reaching Waziristan, the inaccessible region of the Pashtun Tribal Areas. The creators of this astonishing documentary managed to get remarkable access.
