THE SMILE OF TRY ON

Print PDF
MANA_-_KORH_7

DURATION: 72 min.

Try On today is fourteen years old. When her mother sold her she was only seven. She is one of the approximately 30,000 children? prostitutes in Cambodia.

If you ask them their name, most of them? will answer "Try On", in other words, "Try me...". The camera rambles in the emerging white-flesh and trafficking market, the brothels, the "karaoke bars", and the "tourist streets" of Phnom-Penh and records the living nightmare of the under-aged victims of prostitution. Behind their words and their faces unravels the decadence, resulting from the wars that occurred in the last 30 years and? finally led to the disdain of human existence. At the same time, there is also the other side of the coin: the moral degradation and hypocrisy of the "modern civilized nations", the same nations that turn a blind eye while their very own civilians are daily customers of the slave-houses in Southeast Asia.

At the end of the documentary, Try On faces her mother eye to eye and asks a simple question: "Why did you sell me?" Beneath this heart-rending phrase lies the difficulty of defining words like "man" and "moral principles"
