Since 2003 Arab paramilitaries known as ‘Janjaweed', along with the Sudanese army, have been regularly conducting raids against revolted African tribes in the Darfur province, in the west part of Sudan. So far more than 2.2 million people have been dislocated from their villages and have become refugees and more than 300.000 people have been murdered. Yorgos Avgeropoulos records - in some cases ‘legally', in others ‘illegally'- death and persecution in the context of a relentless civil war. A war that began in the form of a small scale conflict over some land and water, as a consequence of climate change. ‘Aided' by the country's dictator, President Bashir, it has turned out to be one of the most savage of today's wars; a tragedy that, while unfolding right before the eyes of the international community, seems to be well hidden behind the desert dust...

The "revival of the Taliban" is a fact. And Pakistan is the new centre of developments in Central Asia, for it is from its grounds that the new waves of fighters with the black turbans, and their continuous attacks, unexpectedly shift the geopolitical map of Central Asia, as well as the international balances.
The hideout and base of operations of the "new Taliban" is located in the rough and inaccessible mountains of the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Not only western people, but even the authorities of Pakistan themselves are incapable of reaching Waziristan, the inaccessible region of the Pashtun Tribal Areas. The creators of this astonishing documentary managed to get remarkable access.

What could urge housewives, students, workers, people of religion, scientists, farmers, natives and non-natives, unemployed, enraged teenagers and peaceable elders to stand together behind the same barricade with stones in their hands?
What could lead them to seizing their town and discussing, altogether, in open assemblies, the creation of the Constitution and of the laws which will rule their lives? Hundreds of thousands of citizens managed to unite in a movement with no leaders, no commanders and no guidance from political parties. History has known very few popular uprisings as the one that took place in the South of Mexico in May, 2006.
